Raf Simons And Alber Elbaz : What Made Them Leave The Maison?
Raf Simons and Alber Elbaz surprised many with their subsequent departure from power brands Christian Dior and Lanvin, respectively. Other notable designers have taken the helm, but they were the ones “seated”. Both are key players in the direction of fashion and are synonymous mainly with impeccable taste, style, and aesthetics.
However, unexpected events arose with the Maison and the assigned directory.

First to send fashionphiles in shock was the parting ways of Raf Simons and Dior after almost three and a half year stint. Simons, 47, said in a statement via Vogue: “It is a decision based entirely and equally on my desire to focus on other interests in my life.”

Asked about the reason, he questions about how fast the industry has been when it comes to fashion. In an interview, he said, “But you have no incubation time for ideas, and incubation time is very important.”
Considering the success Dior had under his name, we could all get the idea that no pressure can force the designer to create pieces instantaneously and that it’s a due process.

Then for less than a week, another shocking news came when Alber Elbaz left Lanvin.
As told by NY Times, he characterized his departure as a result of “the decision of the company’s majority shareholder”. Insiders say that it was caused by disagreements between him and the company’s principals.

He also believed to have spoken distaste on how the company doesn’t have a clear strategy and how they keep on plastering the house’s name to anything not associated with it.
The differences clearly did not work for the parties involved.

As for Christian Dior and Lanvin, no concrete names have been announced to take over yet to replace Raf Simons and Alber Elbaz. It is but an unfortunate and shocking event for many in the industry, evidently. However, the next big question is how the next creative director will be able to put life or more to each.
