The Walking Dead season 7 seems to be back on track with the trajectory in the graphic novel it is based on. The popularity remains high for the series even with the short attention span of viewers, in addition to the instant gratification offered by downloading all the Netflix episodes in one sitting. Season six ended with the Walking Dead still the number one show on TV despite declining ratings compared to season 5. The one-and-a-half-hour finale, for instance, generated 7.4 million views, including 4.5 million in the 18-49 range. This article contains a lot of spoilers so you are given fair warning.

Walking Dead Season 7: Seminal Moments In Comics To Watch Out For

If fans were to decide, the Walking Dead should go beyond season 10. To be fair, the AMC TV series has oftentimes deviated from the storyline in the comics, which it more than likely there would be more episodes beyond the Walking Dead season 7 to whet fans’ appetite. It’s not possible to think that the TV show should follow religiously the source material because there are many factors to consider: budget, for instance, or popularity of character or time constraints. However, there are key sub-plots in the comics which serve as checkpoints for the main story to move forward.

Here are just some of these storylines in the Walking Dead season graphic novel:

1. Negan and Carl

Negan is the brutal big bad in Walking Dead season 7 who was first introduced in issue 100 of the comics. As shown in one of the episodes of the TV series, he has no qualms about killing somebody using his baseball bat coated with barbed wire. However, Carl manages to kill at least eight of the Saviours with an assault rifle and even threatens to kill Negan. The latter is impressed and acts as a mentor. In fact, the comics hint that Negan really does care about Carl.

2 Rick and Negan’s feud develops into all-out war

The all-out war arc could be a good cliffhanger to end Walking Dead season 7 and most of season 8 would deal with the conflict between Rick and Negan. The all-out war started when Rick tried to ambush Negan in retaliation for what he did to the survivors. Negan is captured, but of course, that’s not the end for our favorite baddie.

3. A tiger, you say?

A new community was introduced at the end of season 6. And comic book fans are quick to note it’s going to be The Kingdom leader Ezekiel, along with his tiger. He is an instrumental character in the all-out war saga.

These are just some of the key scenes in the comics fans of the Walking Dead season 7 should watch out for.  Again, the writers of the TV show could go in an entirely different direction. For instance, there are two characters to be introduced in the show that are not found in the comics. These are the grandmother Naomi and Brion (sex unknown). As always, it’s always a futile effort to compare the show and the comics. The best thing to do is to just sit back and enjoy the ride.
