Making Your Own Copper Wire Ring
Copper is great for jewelry and is an incredible metal to work with. Though it’s quite soft, what’s interesting about this metal is it gets harder the more it’s hammered. Copper can be flexible and strong for most jewelry designs. This tutorial will show you how to forge a copper ring that’s elegant, easy to make, and do not require sophisticated tools to work with. It’s a fun project for you to enjoy as well as learn new skills you can utilize. Let’s waste no more time and start making your ring.
What you will need:
- 10 gauge copper wire
- Ring mandrel
- Jewelry saw
- File
- Pliers
- Hammer
- Hard still surface
Instructions:
Step 1. Cut a Copper
Cut a piece of copper long enough to wrap twice around your finger. 10 gauge is a good size
Step 2. File ’em
File round the two edges.
Step 3. Hammer the Wire
Slightly hammer the wire, constantly turning it with your other hand to straighten it out well.
Hammer the wire lengthwise all the way. Do it on a really hard surface such as an iron bat.
Step 4. Turn on One Side
If you bend the wire a little while hammering, turn it on one side and slightly hammer it straight again.
Step 5. Make it Wider
Hammer the two edges more to make it wider than the rest of the ring.
Step 6. Wrap the Wire
Start to wrap the hammered wire on your tube.
Step 7. Hammer Again
Next, hammer the back round to form a ring. It’s best to get the size of your finger before doing this.
Step 8. Wrap it Around
Wrap the rest of the hammered wire around the tube.
Step 9. Final Touch
Finally, hammer the ring nice and round to give it a good finishing.
You’re Done!
And you’re all set! You just made your own piece of jewelry.
