Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has signed on to Jumanji movie reboot. That fact alone is worth the price of admission. The former WWE superstar retired his Speedos and transitioned nicely into one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors of today. Just to get this out of the way, however, the 44-year-old actor clarified that it’s not going to be a remake, but rather a sequel to the 1995 movie starring Robin Williams.

Jumanji Movie Reboot Might Be A Misnomer, But It’s Still Going To ‘Rock’

Dwayne Johnson previously said that the Jumanji movie reboot would honor the late great comedian, Robin Williams, who died two years ago after a long bout with depression. It’s not clear how the movie will follow the events of the 1995 movie. Dwayne Johnson will play the role of Dr. Smolder Bravestone, and while it’s not clear how he is related to Robin Williams’ Alan Parrish, it’s a name so awesome it should be a movie in itself.

Here are some facts you should know about the Jumanji movie reboot:

1. DWAYNE JOHNSON IS A BIG FAN

Despite his buff frame, Dwayne Johnson is a big fan of comedy and, by extension, Robin Williams. In an Instagram post, he recounted how starstruck he was the first time he met the late comedian. He recalled how he couldn’t even speak and was just bumbling around “like an idiot.” “He literally calmed me down with that smile and laugh,” he said.

Dwayne Johnson is also not afraid to be silly in order to make people laugh. Who can forget him wearing a pair of pink tutus in the 2010 film, Tooth Fairy?

2. KEVIN HART AND JACK BLACK ARE ALSO IN IT

This would be the second time Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart will collaborate together in a film following the box-office success of Central Intelligence last year. This would be the first time the wrestler will work with Jack Black, however.

3. JUMANJI MOVIE REBOOT STARTED IN 2012

The process of doing the Jumanji movie reboot actually started about four years ago. The script underwent several rewrites, and finally settling on Scott Rosenberg last year. Rosenberg also has extensive writing experience, having penned action films (Con Air, Gone in Sixty Seconds), dramas (Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead), adventure (Kangaroo Jack) and rom-coms (Beautiful Girls).

4. IT’S SLATED FOR 2017 SUMMER RELEASE

The Jumanji movie reboot is scheduled for release on July 28, 2017. But that wasn’t the original plan, however. When Dwayne Johnson signed on to star in the film, the producers initially thought of a December 2016 release date considering its target market. But the very short turnaround apparently made that impossible.

5. JAKE KASDAN WILL HELM JUMANJI MOVIE REBOOT

Jake Kasdan has been tapped to direct the Jumanji movie reboot. Although not many people might be familiar with the name, he has a diverse CV including director’s credits in TV series Californication, Ben and Kate, New Girl and Fresh Off the Boat, among others. He also directed Bad Teacher (2011) and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007).
